Didn’t one of your parents taught you to stop spoiling water when you where brushing your teeth being young? Well if they did, they were not called environmentalists because of that. To combat climate change is easier and closer than you might think! Maybe you’re just not aware that you are already doing it …
A challenging real-world environmental problem 20 years agoThat we all teach our children to do the same while brushing their teeth is something we take for granted, because we where raised that way by our parents. Not to spoil water was a challenging real-world environmental problem 20 years ago. Something that the current generation is more aware of now, than the generation 20 years ago. This is why water saving toilets with a dual flush system are nowadays very common. And a lot of other water saving solutions. Still the average household uses 185-291 gallons of water per day. On average, 60% of a family's water bill goes down the drain in the toilet and the shower, 20% in the laundry and 20% in other indoor areas like the kitchen. But I can tell you that this is significant less than the average 20 years ago. So the older generation didn’t just save us a lot of water down the drain, more important is that they have created awareness that change was needed in the average lifestyle of most people. If people did not change for the benefit of the environment, they did it for financial reasons. Not to spoil water is common sense for most people now. But do we have the same sense with saving energy?
Do we have the same sense with saving energy? The current generation faces another challenging real-world environmental problem, climate change. I do not want to startup a discussion who is responsible for climate change humanity, nature or other causes. The fact is that humans have a very big influence with their air pollution, carbon dioxide emissions and energy usage. And if humanity has a big influence they can change it to a positive one, right? Easier said than done, but not impossible. I know that most people say that their little changes do not directly influence or stop the climate change. Not to spoil water had the same challenge 20 years ago and look where we are now! If some of our today’s suggested energy saving tips could become common and normal in future lifestyles, you can imagine the big picture and the savings potential. That we get more aware of our energy consumption (or carbon footprint) is just a matter of time. Of course some things will never change. I still believe that 20 years from now we will still light up our entire houses at Christmas. But probably we will all use less energy with new Christmas lights that thank their existence through innovation and common demanding changes in later generation lifestyles. Taking action is very simple. Start with reading our today’s suggested energy saving tips and remember that everybody can combat climate change! Have a happy life, Sincerely, The Gnome Ambassador |
