Hi, my name is Paul (32-year old Dutchman), one of the co-founders of this project/website. I am glad that we have finally left the preparation phase and that our project has reached the operational phase. A phase in which our Gnomes will spread the message throughout the world.
And more important, challenge you or their new-to-meet friends to beat the climate change. People ask me often why I am one of the co-founders, because I am not known for being an actively environmental involved person. This is true. However I am very well aware of the world we live in and its political, historical, social and environmental aspects. The time has come that mankind has to pay the price for being Egocentric. This is well shown in documentaries such as An Inconvenient Truth and We Feed The World. But also, just look around and see for yourself. So, me and two friends started this project and to make this “heavy subject” more accessible to normal people, like you and me, we decided to use Gnomes as a vehicle for our project. Gnomes spreading the message and asking for on active participation… The journey starts in The Netherlands and we will do this by introducing ourselves and tell a little bit about how we combat The Climate Change. As I said earlier I was not that involved in environmental issues. And that is shown in my life: I do not divide my garbage (organic and nonorganic), or use special light bulbs. I do not believe in such little gestures. I think that a broader approach (political, social aspects) will gain a more positive impact. And that is very hard, because the world is divided in citizens and consumers. For us it is very easy to tell and convince citizens to do something about the climate change. They will understand it, support it and .. as a consumer ignore that. Why, because it will cost (a) money and/or (b) less comfort….. That’s why I hope that international projects (governmental or nongovernmental) trying to do something about it, will reach enough pubic and support. Let me end with an initiative of GreenSeat.com, they offer travelers (by air) the possibility to compensate their damage (CO2 pollution). You can calculate the amount of Co2 emission of your journey and compensate that with money for “green projects”. For now it’s a voluntary approach..think of what I could mean when it’s part of every ticket price (do not think of the extra money, but the positive goals!)
I will deliver the message to the next person in Koldens journey: 3rd co-founder Hermen Vorstenbosch. With Regards, Paul van Zoggel |
