Hi, my name is Diego Arentsen and I live in Oss (The Netherlands). I am befriended with Jeroen van Oosterhout (one of the GNOMEDIARIES co-founders) and when he told me that he started an initiative with some gnomes, I started to laugh out loud.
Now that the initiative has progressed a couple of months, I had the opportunity to see, touch and feel the travelling gnomes myself. I do have to confess that I am kind of proud of the GNOMEDIARIES team for what they are trying to do: to create more awareness for our climate. Myself, I am a little aware what can happen to the world if we do not do anything about for instance global warming. In our housekeeping we do separate our waste, we do use our bikes more than we used to instead than quickly jumping in the car and we do not heat our house unnecessary in the morning if we have to go to work all day. Unfortunately I have to use the car to travel to my work everyday (50Km / 31 miles). I could of course travel by train what will cost me 3 times more the travel expenses and 2 times more the time effort. This is in other words undoable if I want to keep this job enjoyable. I think that my extra effort for the climate will be to help spreading the message that something needs to be done. We all have to get more aware in what ways we are spoiling our planet. A Dutch saying "Een schoner milieu begint bij uzelf!" (translated: A cleaner environment begins by yourself!) is very well chosen but "If you want anything done, do it yourself" is a more commonly known phrase around the world that will speak for itself. With regards, Diego Arentsen Oss. |
