Of course I have to support a great initiative from Oss regarding a more sustainable world!
Sustainability means for me that future generations can grow up in a livable world.
A reasonable level of prosperity can be combined well with clean manners of production, recreation and transport. The development of new and clean forms of energyproduction and a justified treatment of waste is essential in this manner. A key role has been put aside for the purchase of CO2 emission and with that the coherent climate changes. Measures on world scale are thereby necessary. Although the influence of a relatively small city such as Oss is nevertheless small on world scale, we also must contribute to the improvement of the environment. There are all kinds of plans to make Oss more durable. Several of these plans are carried out now or soon will be. To reduce car usage, the public transport in Oss will be free for certain groups. Besides this, several cars of the municipality drive on natural gas. Because clean water must stay clean, measures are taken to catch rain water separately and prevented not to be drained by the sewers. Removal of garbage has been well and cheap organised for the occupants of Oss. The production and the use of durable energy are promoted. With this, the municipality of Oss, won two prices last year! In May of this year, Oss received the People-Planet-Profit-Pluim from Senter Novem, the Dutch organization for Durability and Innovation. This is a price for encouraging a durable purchase policy. Last month, Oss also won the first price at the election of municipal sustainability projects for the project 'driving on natural gas'. This project exists of the creation of refill points for natural gas, but also of creating the need for natural gas as fuel. The goal of this project is to encourage companies to run their cars on natural gas. There is still a long way to go, but the will and possibilities to provide a more durable community are more than available in Oss. Hopefully we can add to a more sustainable world! I wish the Gnomes much success on their travels and I will keep an eye on them.
