Gnome Kolden the first on route

around the globe

OSS – In presence of family, friends and sponsors, last Saturday afternoon the first gnome of GnomeDiaries was sent on route through the four initiative takers. The little men, 6 of them, will travel around the globe to gather awareness for climate change and related environment problems.

A sunny autumn Saturday in Oss. The sun pricks through the leaf covering of the trees at the Jan Cunen park. Before the Museum Jan Cunen we find three little flight cases on a stone bench. From one of these cases Kolden appears, the first travel gnome or ‘travelling gnome’ who will travel around the globe. Kolden, the gnome with the blue shirt, has got 4 brothers; Yaldor, Olim, Tenoc and Oak. All the gnomes are designed by artist Ties Lowes. The first letters of their names form the word Kyoto, a reference to the well known environment treaty. Kolden’s family will start their world trip in the nearby future. The sixth gnome, crafted in gold, is simply called ‘The Ambassador’. He will travel only on enquiry to people who have some special arguments about the climate to share in the gnome diaries.

Earth men
Because that is what it is all about according to Jeroen van Oosterhout, Roel Gillesen, Hermen Vorstenbosch and Paul van Zoggel. The four men from the region of Oss want to ask with their gnome action and their web space attention for worldwide climate threat of global warming. “Gnomes stand closer to our nature than humans. They are also called ‘earth men’ for this reason”, tells Jeroen van Oosterhout. “That is why they are the perfect messengers to make the people more aware that global warming has to be stopped”. The journey of the gnome miniatures can be closely followed on GnomeDiaries.com. In the first weeks Kolden will travel amongst Van Zoggel, Vorstenbosch and Gillesen, but after that he will really travel into the wide world. In a sturdy cabin case with perfect measures, well packed in special and of course environment friendly foam, he will invite people like you and me to tell us what we think about what climate change means for us. Accordingly their vision can be read on www.gnomediaries.com. Van Oosterhout does not expect that the gnomes will disappear in an anonymous garden: “People will certainly understand that this is not nonsense, but a serious initiative in a playful and speech making coating”.
