February 15th 2008. It is very exciting if Yaldor can travel with us as hand luggage. At the check-in it appears to be no problem at all. We do have too much luggage weight, but even that is not a problem according to the ground flight attendant.
At the customs Yaldor has to go through the x-ray scanner. Answering the “what is inside” question with “a travelling gnome”, created a lot of fun and laughter. Unfortunately there is no time for explanation. We both fly comfort class this time, Yaldor is using our extra leg space. Of course flying is not the best environmental way to travel but we travel with a special reason. 4 years ago we experienced the tsunami in Sri Lanka. That is why we travel back every year to see if we can help the local people on a little scale. Last year we bought a boat for the family of the son that helped us out of the hotel during the tsunami. This year we want to check if everything is all right. The father of the family is a fisherman, but was forced to be a construction worker without his boat. A forced existence that did not earn enough money to support his family. Another goal this year is to see what we can mean for an orphanage, but you can read about that in a later article. With regards, Peter and Corrie. |
