Daily traffic in Mumbai - India. Photo: Fabienne DekkerI can remember my first night here in India, just coming of the airplane and already overwhelmed by what I saw: Garbage all over the street, and poor people living in it.

Not to mention the big numbers of wild animals and their droppings everywhere in the streets. Is there no regulation here? Apparently not, there are not even garbage cans available in the city.

When I was living here some time longer, I realized that Indian people are lazier than any other nation where I’ve been so far. If they need to travel, even just a walk away, they take their scooter or car to go there. You can’t just walk in the streets, because if you do, within two minutes a tuc-tuc will stop in front of you and offers you a ride for a good price.

When I asked the lady in the house where I am currently living how India is trying to make the environment better, she could not give me a straight answer. I told her about what is good and bad for the environment and how the Dutch people are struggling like people in other European countries to make the world a better and cleaner place. She didn't even know one organization here in India that was coming up for the environment.  The local Indian people tell me that their government is more busy with getting people of the street and get them to work and try to get more tourists to India.

The western part of the world is trying hard and struggling,  but in India it's far away from getting just a little better. I guess  most of the locals just don't care.

I did find some organizations on the internet here in India that are trying to introduce Green energy from sun and waterfalls. But they are still searching for sponsors, so I’ve heard.
