ImageLast Wednesday, the dutch court approved the introduction of flight tax. The flight tax is introduced to discourage people to use air-transport. The flight tax is not contrary according the Chicago and European agreements regarding air traffic.

Reason for the judge to dismiss the complaints of Airport Schiphol, Airport Maastricht, Ryanair, rendon and several other airports and companies. The new flight tax means that every flight from 1st of July on will be extra taxed. This would mean 11,25 EURO per ticket for flight up to 2500 kilometers and 45 EURO per ticket for flights with a longer distance. A family of 4 people that flies from Schiphol to the Canary Islands will pay 180 EURO more for their tickets.

Businesses always have been against the flight tax. In the past they announced to fight this law to the highest instance possible. The ANVR and the airline companies were disappointed about the ruling.
Director Frank Oostdam said he sees some opportunities to continue fighting against the flight tax. The airline companies want to evaluate the ruling before proceeding. The minister of Finance is happy with the decision of the Court.
