Kolden's been staying with me for a couple of weeks now and it's about time you got an update! The one thing that has bothered us the most over these weeks is the apparent lack of insight that has afflicted so many of my fellow Swedes taking their cars to work.
I guess it wouldn't be that big a disaster if all those cars, which we've seen every morning as we've waited for the bus, were full of commuters. But to a depressing degree, they tend to carry a single person! In an age when reports on carbon dioxide emissions, car exhausts and climate change are filling up our media, people in general still seem reluctant to do one of the few things they can to *actually* make a difference! Kolden and I could scarcely believe our eyes.... The obvious choice is of course to take the bus instead. Simple and efficient, and usually more likely to take you there on time as there are bus lanes in most urban areas. Better still: take the train if one is available. And if you should be so lucky to live at a reasonable distance from your place of work: take the bike. Or run! The two last options will have the added bonus of keeping you fit as well. That's what I've been doing since I started commuting ten years ago and I can't see why most people living under the same logistical conditions couldn't do the same. Kolden heartily encourages you to do it! He's seen here during a promotional photo shoot for Storstockholms Lokaltrafik, after which he bid me goodbye, mentioning that he had a school to visit.... Cheers, Christer |
