 It has been quiet a long time since I’m in Sri Lanka. Sorry that I didn’t inform you earlier, but I needed quiet some time because Sri Lanka is a country with such diversity in nature.
Its’ variety of landscapes makes this country astonishing; coastline, lagoons, rainforests, mountains, lowlands and lots of greeneries. Now I’ve got a good impression of Sri Lanka’s environment and I’m happy to start informing you about it’s’ policy and the populations behaviour towards environmental protection. In this blog I like to introduce general facts of Sri Lanka. After about 2 weeks you will read more about the governmental policy. Up from half of July I’ll travel around with my host, and then I’ll be able to show and inform you how the environmental awareness is among the citizens (almost 21 mln) of Sri Lanka. Sri Lanka, an island near the equator and in the Indian Ocean, is situated at the south of India. It has a tropical climate with 2 monsoons. It so amazing to find a fireplace in your hotel room, being in a tropical country! But at higher elevations, like in Nuwara Eliya, the weather can be very cool! Sri Lanka is aware of its’ beautiful nature and it has about 70 protected areas. One of the World Heritage sites is the tropical rainforest Sinharaja Forest Reserve. There are also many national parks; Horton Plains National Park, Bundala National Park, Annaiwilundawa Tanks Sanctuary, et cetera. And she’s right to have so many protected areas! Besides the amazing variety of palm trees and greeneries, she hides hundreds of species of butterflies and birds. Also animals like elephants, monkeys, tortoises, deer, crocodiles, leopards and bears. And that not all! So also Sri Lanka has enough reason to protect its valuable nature, not only for the human being, but also for its animal inhabitants. Soon I’ll inform you about Sri Lanka’s governmental policy towards environmental protection.
