BRUSSEL – “This is the most ambitious climate program ever.” That is what prime minister Jan Peter Balkenende from The Netherlands said Thursday about the proposals that are on the agenda for discussion with all the European Union leaders Thursday and Friday in Brussels.
The plans must limit the global warming of the earth and prevent the increase of the sea levels. The European Commission, the daily administration of the EU, has set servile goals that Balkenende supports heartily. The commission wants Europe to decrease their energy usage, wants to cut of at least 20 percent of the carbon dioxide emissions from the emission levels in 1990 and that 20 percent of the European energy consumption will be gained form renewable sources (water, wind, sun). |
